David Eugene Sorenson, age 65, of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, died Sunday, March 25, at the River Falls Area Hospital. He was the ninth child born to Henry and Myrtle (Baardson) Sorenson on November 6, 1941, in Gilman Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed at Gilman Lutheran Church. David grew up on the family farm in Gilman, where he attended Gilman Center School grades one through eight.
Wayburn Gedatus, age 79 of Baldwin, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Funeral services will be Monday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Spring Valley with burial in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Woodville. Friends may call on Sunday, March 25 from 2-5 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley and one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
Rosella J. Meier, 78, Beldenville, Wis., died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at the American Heritage Care Center, Hammond, Wis.. Rosella was born September 18, 1928, in Clifton township, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Dravis) Edgar. Rosella was a graduate of the River Falls High School. On September 9, 1950, she married Clifford Meier at St. John's E & R. In her spare time, enjoyed doing arts and crafts and ceramics. She had the ability to do most everything and was a perfectionist in everything she did.
Ethel Veronica Muhlhausen died Tuesday, March 13, 2007. She was born on December 25, 1911, at Diamond Bluff, Wis., to Jess and Margaret (Kish) Nadeau. She attended schools in Pierce County, Red Wing High School, and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1930. On August 21, 1930, she married Clarence G. Muhlhausen at Prescott, Wis. They farmed in rural Prescott, moving in 1941 to farm near Ellsworth. Clarence died on September 12, 1977. Ethel continued living on the farm until the fall of 2000, when she went to live with her daughter, Violet, at Cannon Falls, Minn.
The Rev. Selmer C. Knutson, age 93 of Rochester, Minn. (formerly of Woodville, Wis.), died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at his home in Rochester. Funeral services for Pastor Knutson will be Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville, with burial in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Woodville. Friends may call on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at Zion Lutheran and one hour prior to service on Sunday at the church. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is handling arrangements.
Mary (Mrs. Graydon) Wood, age 86 of Tuscon, Ariz. died Sunday, March 11, 2007 in Tucson. Funeral services will be Friday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at Ono Methodist Church, Grange Hall, Wis., with spring burial in the Ono Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at the church. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley is handling arrangements.
Gerald Joseph Shafer, age 85, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, died Friday, March 2, 2007, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center. Gerald was born January 25, 1922, the son of Mathew and Julia (Andersen) Shafer in El Paso Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in El Paso and was presently a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spring Valley. Gerald attended the Wood Country School in El Paso Township. In 1940, Gerald met a young lady named Valera Collett.
William Clarence "Bill" Bach, 48, Bay City, died at his home Wednesday. He was born July 16, 1958 in Red Wing, the son of Melvin J. and Irene I. (James) Bach. He attended school in Ellsworth. He lived in River Falls until moving to Bay City in August of 2006. He worked for Wieser Concrete out of Maiden Rock for the past 18 years. He had been sober for 25 years and was a member of the River Falls Alcoholics Anonymous. He enjoyed doing carpentry and handiwork and visiting with others, especially with the "Counter Guys" who met every Saturday morning at Perkins in River Falls.
Gordon Dean Ahlgren, age 77, of Prescott, Wisconsin died February 20, 2007 at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on June 21, 1929, in River Falls, Wisconsin to Harold and Winona (Martinson) Ahlgren. Gordon attended the Bailey country school in Clifton Township and graduated from Prescott High School in 1946 and attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Gordon farmed on the family farm established by his grandfather, Johan Frederick Alilgren, who emigrated from Sweden in 1867. Gordon married Dorothy Eaton of Prescott on November 25, 1950.
PRESCOTT - A motor vehicle accident helped cause an explosion that killed the operator of the vehicle and injured a Prescott police officer on the scene Saturday evening. A pick-up truck collided with a house on the northwest corner of the intersection of Pearl and Hampshire streets. The truck had been northbound on Pearl St. when it left the roadway and struck the south side of the house at 1010 Pearl St. The front of the truck was embedded six feet into the home and it damaged a natural gas meter on the side of the house and caused a gas leak.
