It was just a year ago when members of the Hanson family purchased the Hudson Golf Club. Over their first season of ownership they learned and watched how the club, building and grounds functioned. When the club closed for the season they had a vision for the future in place, based on their observations. "We decided to make the changes that would help the club be a success," said Jon Hanson, president and general manager. Demolition began in November and the new reality was unveiled in April. The basement was gutted completely.
People traveled from far and near last weekend for the privilege of attending a concrete sculpture workshop at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Famed folk artist Wouterina "Riana" De Raad returned to teach the two-day event, which found participants wrestling with stainless metal lath to create everything from a life size Airedale terrier to a delicate vase. Two mother and daughter teams participated, with Betty Ruggles and her daughter Amanda Dupreez driving up from southern Wisconsin.
