Workers in hardhats finished pouring concrete for the new overpass at Hwy. 35N and Radio Road earlier in April. Water was sprayed over the freshly poured  8.5-inch concrete surface to help it solidify without cracking. Ramps, roundabouts, grading, lighting and signage still remain before the $11 million two-year project is completed Aug. 1.

Tiffany Walrack has taken on the task of trying to make the intersection of Tower Road and Old Hwy. 35 safer. Her family was involved in a serious accident in 2010 and drivers continue to run stop signs at the intersection.

Five of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department’s 18 patrol deputies have been outfitted with body-worn cameras, and plans are to buy the cameras for the other 13 by the end of 2016. According to department policy, the camera is to be attached high on the center of the officer’s uniform shirt “in an area that most closely captures the deputy’s field of vision.” (Rivertowns photo by Judy Wiff)

Qianwen Zhu (Sarah) encourages second grader Amelia Smith in Jayne Hoffman’s class at Westside Elementary with enunciating her first name in Chinese. The visiting Chinese students are taking 16 credits of classes per semester at UW-River Falls. A two-credit UWRF practicum includes teaching in classrooms at Westside, Greenwood, Rocky Branch and the Montessori.

Where the Dodge Stratus driven by Carlos Maciel Leijo came to rest after Friday's afternoon accident, on Highway 10, east of Plum City. Leijo was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The other three passengers were uninjured.
