River Falls' Ryan Bjornstal, left, hands the baton to teammate Brad Freeborn to start the second leg of the boys' 4x100 meter relay at the Stan Barr Relays in New Richmond Monday afternoon. Bjornstal and Freeborn teamed up with Jon Helgeson and John Maillette for a first place time of 43.58 seconds to help the Cats edge Hudson by 2.5 points for the team title.

The River Falls Swim Club had 10 state qualifiers this season for the Senior State Meet at the University of Natatorium and the Age Group State Meet held in Rochester in March.

Wildcat catcher Kyle Duex blocks the plate but can't get the tag on Eau Claire North's Ryan O'Connor in the second inning of the Cats' home opener last Tuesday at the high school field. Eau Claire North swept the Wildcats, 11-1 and 5-4.

River Falls' Blake Heimen putts from just off the eighth green as snow continues to melt in the background at the Cats' first golf match of the season last Thursday at Clifton Hollow. Heimen shot a 40 in the 9-hole Big Rivers Conference match to help the Wildcats to a first place score of 153.

Golfers win first BRC match

River Falls' Orville Black hits a backhanded return in his match with partner Sid Young at No. 1 doubles in the Cats' Big Rivers Conference match against Chippewa Falls last Thursday at the high school courts. Black and Young posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory to help the Cats sweep the doubles competition on their way to a 4-3 win.

Wildcat junior Amelia Kjos, center, gets off to a good start in the third heat of the girls' 55 meter dash last Friday at the Border Battle Track and Field Meet at UW-River Falls' Knowles Fieldhouse. Kjos posted the fifth fastest time in the event before going on to set a new school record in the 200 meter dash.
