River Falls fifth at St. Croix Falls tourney
River Falls claimed a top 5 finish in last weekend's St. Croix Falls Wrestling Classic.
The Wildcats finished fifth in the 20-team event with 121 points. Hudson won the Saturday, Jan. 20, event, with St. Croix Falls, Cumberland and Totino Grace rounding out the top 5.
River Falls saw three wrestlers reach first-place matches, all placing second in their respective weight classes.
Runners-up for the Wildcats were Nathan Fuller (152), who lost in a decision to Boyceville's Brock Schlough after defeating Hudson's Caleb Hatch and William Peters of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm.
Chance Kamrowski finished second in the 195-pound class after losing a major decision to Boyceville's Garrett Joles. Kamrowski earned victories over Justin Zahner of Princeton and Carter Utecht of Pine City on his way to the title match.
Rounding out River Falls' second-place finishers was Mitchell Williamson, who lost in a decision to Hudson's Cole Godbout in the first-place match at 285. He topped Flambeau's J.C. Shackleton and Boyceville's Noah Novotney along the way.
Other high finishers for River Falls included Glen Pendleton (third, 170), Luke Killian (fifth, 160), Garrett Borth (sixth, 145) and Tyler Kliszcz (sixth, 220). Bennet Cernohous (106) and Spencer Cernohous (120) each claimed seventh-place honors for River Falls.
