Hudson sweeps RF in BRC softball finale
Katie Cardell threw a pair of shutouts and Hudson hit six home runs while sweeping River Falls, 10-0 and 12-0, in the Big Rivers Conference softball finale for both teams Tuesday, May 15, at Grandview Park.
Game one started and ended with Hudson home runs as Colleen Halverson hit a leadoff bomb in the bottom of the first and Hannah Stich drilled a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to invoke the ten-run mercy rule. In between Megan Iverson hit a solo shot in the second.
Halverson also doubled and singled in the win and finished with three RBI while Grace O'Brien contributed three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Cardell struck out eight and walked two while allowing four hits in six innings.
Taylor Weick, Eryn Herrera, Taryn Gullickson and Sydney Seeley all singled for River Falls while Weick took the loss in the circle.
Iverson homered twice in game two and Cardell threw five innings of shutout ball in Hudson's 12-0 victory.
Iverson and Courtney Moeri hit back-to-back homers in the top of the second and Iverson added a two-run homer during a four-run Raider fifth inning to invoke the mercy rule.
O'Brien had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs while Kaiya Sundeen contributed a pair of singles.
Weick had two hits and Herrera, Gullickson and Skyler Ross had one each for River Falls while Gullickson took the pitching loss.
Hudson ended its conference season with a record of 10-2 and is currently in second place in the BRC standings behind Chippewa Falls, who swept Menomonie Tuesday to improve to 9-1. The Cardinals wrap up their conference season with a doubleheader against Rice Lake Thursday, May 17.
Hudson, 13-4 overall, will host Baldwin-Woodville in a nonconference game Friday, May 18, at 5 p.m. at Grandview Park while River Falls ended the regular season with a record of 2-13 overall, 0-12 in BRC play.
