Loomis ties for 5th state golf

River Falls junior Garrett Loomis moved up seven spots on the second day of the WIAA Division 1 Boys' State Golf Tournament in Madison Tuesday to finish in a tie for fifth place with a two-day total of 148.

Loomis cut two strokes off his first-day score of 75 at University Ridge Golf Course to card a 73 on Tuesday and bring home a fifth place medal. He was tied for 12th place after Monday's first round.

RJ Budd of Sauk Prairie won the state individual title with a total score of 143. Three individuals tied for second at 146 while Loomis was one of four players who tied for fifth with 148 to round out the top eight medal winners.

Wildcat senior Joe Bodahl tied for 53rd place with a two-day score of 162.

Loomis is the first Wildcat medal winner at the boys' state golf tournament since Tyler Obermueller finished fourth in 2005.
