Boys hockey: Wildcats win playoff opener

River Falls scored six goals in the first period then doubled that total over the final two frames to defeat the WSFLG Blizzard, 12-2 in a Section 1 regional semifinal Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Wildcat Centre.

The seventh-seeded Wildcats will now face No. 2 seed Superior in a regional final Thursday, Feb. 15, in Superior.

Graetz had a hat trick in the first period and Taylor Rotsaert, Cody Wilson and Jake Bergmanis had a goal each to stake River Falls to a 6-0 lead.

Graetz netted his second goal of the game and Bergmanis scored his second t extend the Wildcat's lead to 8-1 after two. Max Morrow, Joe Stoffel, Braedon Harer and Carter Christensen added in the third period-- Harer's and Christensen's coming shorthanded-- to make the final 12-2.

Jack Decheine got the start in goal and stopped all six shots he faced in the opening period before Jack Stoffel made 17 saves over the final two frames.
