Late goal lifts booters

Stefan Klechefski's goal in the 86th minute snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Wildcat boys soccer team a 2-1 Big Rivers Conference victory over Eau Claire North and a season sweep of the Huskies Thursday, Oct. 5, in Eau Claire.

North took a quick 1-0 lead four minutes into the match before Gage Espanet tied things up with an assist from Joe Cottrell midway through the first half.

The score remained tied until Klechefski found the back of the net off an assist from Niko Zoller with less than five minutes remaining to give the Wildcats the 2-1 win.

River Falls goalkeeper Jari Zoller finished with seven saves as the Huskies outshot the Wildcats, 8-4.

The victory was the second over the Huskies in two meetings this season and give the Wildcats a record of 3-6-1 in BRC play, 5-9-2 overall. River Falls shutout Eau Claire North, 1-0, back on Sept. 22.

The Wildcats host Hudson (7-3-0, 8-9-0) Tuesday, Oct. 10 and will wrap up regular season play Thursday, Oct. 12, at Menomonie (0-8-1, 3-10-2) before beginning WIAA Division 2 regional play Thursday, Oct. 19.
