After a two-year absence, the St. Croix Valley Fusion girls hockey team is returning to the WIAA State Hockey Tournament after defeating Superior, 5-0, in a sectional semifinal Friday night, Feb. 28, in New Richmond.

Andrea Eliason had a hat trick, Carlie Christensen made 30 saves and the Fusion converted on 4 of 6 power play opportunities to win the fourth sectional title in program history. St. Croix Valley won three straight state titles from 2009-11.

Eliason scored two power play goals in the first period and Hannah Zevenbergen scored a power play goal 5:47 into the second period before Eliason stole the puck deep in the Spartan zone and scored an unassisted goal to complete her hat trick.

Allie DeMotts tallied a power play goal in the third period to complete the Fusion scoring.

Christensen stopped all 30 shots she faced to record her second straight playoff shutout and eighth shutout of the season.

The Fusion will face either Middleton or Onalaska in a WIAA state semifinal game this Friday, March 6, at approximately 2:15 p.m. at Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
