Wildcat gymnasts punch ticket to state

The River Falls High School gymnastics team will look to defend its state title when it returns to the WIAA State Team Gymnastics Tournament next Friday, March 7, in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Wildcats qualified for their 12<sup>th</sup> straight state tournament appearance by taking first place at the Division 2 sectional meet in Arcadia Thursday night, Feb. 27. River Falls has won six state championships in the last 12 years, including the 2013 state title.[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"559312","attributes":{"alt":"","class":"media-image","height":"480","typeof":"foaf:Image","width":"352"}}]]

The Wildcats won the eight-team sectional with a team score of 138.075. Rice Lake/Cumberland, who took second with 137.15, also advanced.

Four Wildcats also qualified for the state individual tournament Saturday, March 8, in Wisconsin Rapids. Senior Karlie Place won the sectional title in the vault and also qualified on the uneven bars and floor exercise. Sophomore Brianna Kubic finished third on the uneven bars and fourth in the all-around to qualify in both events while junior Karin Sollom advanced with a fourth place finish on the uneven bars and junior Kelly Maier took fourth on the balance beam to move on.
