Gymnasts host annual invite Jan. 18

The defending state champion Wildcat gymnastics team improved its dual record to 4-0 with a sweep of Hudson and Superior in a double dual last Friday night, Jan. 10, at Meyer Middle School.

The Cats posted a team score of 136.45 while Hudson came in with 133.45 and Superior finished with 115.525.

Up next for the Wildcats is the annual River Falls Invitational this Saturday, Jan. 18, at the River Falls High School gym beginning at 11 a.m.

Last Friday night at the middle school, Brianna Kubic took first on both the uneven bars and floor exercise and the Cats swept the top spots on the balance beam and in the vault to remain undefeated in dual meets.

Kubic scored 9.225 in the floor exercise and 8.575 in the vault to win both events. She also posted a score of 8.1 in the vault and 7.55 on the balance beam to place second in the all-around with a total of 33.45.

The Cats swept the top two spots on both the vault and balance beam. Karlie Place won the vault with a score of 9.425 and Karin Sollom was second with 8.675, while Kelly Maier took first on the balance beam with a score of 8.925 and Taylor Rose was second with 8.85. Maier also had a 7.825 on the bars.

Place contributed scores of 8.85 on floor and 7.35 on bars to the Cats’ team total and Sollom scored 8.75 on beam and 8.1 on bars.

Kinsy Sylla competed on the beam and floor, scoring 8.3 and 8.55, respectively, and Alyssa Paulson had an 8.425 on floor and 7.75 on vault while Maddie Raverty posted scores of 8.15 on both the floor and vault. Sonja Kelly had a score of 7.525 on bars.

Both Hudson and Superior will be among the 12 teams joining the Wildcats at this Saturday’s River Falls Invitational at the high school. Other Wisconsin teams include Menomonie, Rice Lake, Ashland, Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau and Grantsburg along with Red Wing, Centennial, Stewartville, Annandale and Irondale from Minnesota.
