Powell wins sectional cross country title

Wildcat senior Trent Powell won the boys’ race and junior Annie Frisbie took second in the girls’ race at the WIAA Division 1 cross country sectional Saturday, Oct. 26, in Menomonie.

Both Wildcats qualified for the WIAA State Championships this Saturday, Nov. 2, in Wisconsin Rapids.

Powell’s winning time of 16 minutes, 11.2 second was over five seconds faster than runner-up Patrick Treacy of Eau Claire Memorial. The Old Abes won the boys’ team title with 51 points while La Crosse Logan was second with 63 to both qualify for the state meet as teams. River Falls was fourth with 139.

Frisbie qualified for the state meet with a second place time of 15:15.3. Eau Claire Memorial’s Aubrey Roberts won the sectional title for the second straight season with a time of 14:53.2.

Eau Claire Memorial took first with 46 points and Hudson was second with 67 to earn spots as teams at state while the Wildcats finished sixth with 145.
