Falcons skate to NCAA semis, finals March 22 against St. Thomas

Brianna Breiland, Karleigh Wolkerstorfer, Brook Story and Dani Sibley had a goal apiece and Ashley Kuechle made 15 saves as the UW-River Falls women’s hockey team defeated Lake Forest College, 4-1, in a NCAA Division III National Quarterfinal game last Saturday at Hunt Arena.

The fourth-ranked Falcons, now 22-4-3 on the season, will face second-ranked Norwich, Vt. (26-3-0) in a national semifinal this Friday, March 21, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Host Plattsburgh will take on St. Thomas in the other semifinal with the winners facing off Saturday, March 22, for the national championship.

Falcon coach Joe Cranston liked the way his team played in last Saturday’s win over No. 9 ranked Lake Forest (17-6-3).

“We played really well from the start to the end,” Cranston said. “You could see after the game the emotion of the team and how much they wanted this win.
