Basketball: Girls searching for first W

After dropping their first Big Rivers Conference game to Eau Claire North, 67-54, Tuesday, Nov. 28, the Wildcat girls basketball team lost a pair of games at its home quad over the weekend, falling to Stillwater, 77-54, Friday, Dec. 1, and Tartan, 80-61, Saturday, Dec. 2, to slip to 0-5 on the season.

The Wildcats outscored Eau Claire North in the second half last Tuesday but couldn't overcome a 15-point halftime deficit in their BRC opener.

Sophomore Kylie Strop led River Falls with 15 points and nine rebounds while also recording four steals and three assists. Junior Bailey Reardon finished with 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals while senior Ema Pupungatoa had eight points and eight boards and senior Kiera LaCroix had eight points. Sophomore Abby Doerre chipped in six points and sophomore Taylor Weick had two.

Friday against Stillwater, the Ponies rolled out to a 43-23 halftime lead on their way to beating the Cats 77-54.

Reardon led River Falls with 18 points and Strop scored 10 while sophomore Maddi Kealy and junior Faith Mader had six points each. Doerre and Pupungatoa each scored five and Weick had four.

The Wildcats visited Hudson this past Tuesday and will host Menomonie Friday, Dec. 8 at 7:15 p.m. before hosting a non conference game with Osceola Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, they visit Rice Lake.
