Women skaters rout Oles
Carly Moran and Madi Nolan scored two goals apiece and 14 different Falcons recorded at least one point as the fourth-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team rolled to a 10-1 victory over St. Olaf Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Hunt Arena.
UWRF fell behind 1-0 before scoring five straight goals in the first period to take control. Freshman Callie Hoff scored the only goal of the second period to make it a 6-1 game before Amy Auran, Kora Torkelson, Nolan and Moran added third period goals to make the final 10-1.
Sam Young, Kathryn Larson and Erica Schramel also scored in the win while Schramel added two assists and was on the ice for seven of the Falcon's 10 goals. Tatyana Delaittre played the first 45 minutes in goal and stopped 11 of 12 shots while Leighton Rockenstock stopped all four shots she faced in the final 15 minutes. UWRF outshot St. Olaf, 40-16.
The Falcons, now 6-1-1 overall, 2-0-0 in the WIAC, will visit UW-Superior for a conference game this Friday, Dec. 1 before playing a home-and-home nonconference series with seventh ranked Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday, Nov. 6, in St. Peter and Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
Men skate to third straight win
Eddie Matsushima and Aussie Miller had a goal and assist each and Zach Quinn made 23 saves as the Falcon men's hockey team defeated Hamline University, 4-2, Tuesday, Nov. 21, in St. Paul.
Peter Karavos and Joe Druplak added a goal each as the Falcons outshot the Pipers, 30-25.
The win was the third straight for UWRF after losing five of their first six games. They open WIAC play against a pair of ranked opponents this weekend, Friday, Dec. 1, at home against 10th-ranked UW-Stevens Point at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2, at 15th-ranked UW-Eau Claire.
Women's hoops fades to Bethel
A rough fourth quarter cost the UWRF women's basketball team its first loss of the season, 67-55, Tuesday, Nov. 21, at home against Bethel University.
The Falcons led 38-27 with 6:27 remaining in the third quarter and 46-40 at the end of three before being outscored 27-9 in the final 10 minutes. UWRF went 3-for 14 from the field and 3-for-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Taylor Karge was the lone Falcon in double figures in scoring with 18 points. Crystal Pearson and Madelyn O'Brien scored eight points each while Pearson pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
UWRF, now 3-1, will visit Gustavus Adolphus College Thursday, Nov. 30 before hosting Northland College Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at Page Arena.
