Prescott beats River Falls 1-0
OSCEOLA - The Prescott Pirates edged River Falls 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Wisconsin Baseball Association State Tournament played in the dark night of Friday evening.
The first game of the tournament, Osceola vs. Sparta, went 11 innings and delayed the start of the Prescott-River Falls contest which was to be at 9 p.m. Sparta won the game over the host Braves 2-0.
The game between the Pirates and Fighting Fish was a pitcher's duel the whole way as Plum City's Tony Garner, pitching for River Falls, and Prescott's Mark Moriarity gave up just five hits between them.
Prescott plays against 4:30 p.m. against Sparta. The tournament begins again this morning with Menomonie taking on the Haugen Knights followed by Chaseburg-Coon Valley vs. Brill.
If Prescott wins the championship game is set for noon on Sunday. The Pirates played in the finals last season.
