Soccer opens BRC 0-2


The Wildcat boys soccer team had its hands full in its first two matches of the season last week and came away on the short end of both scores.
The Cats dropped a 1-0 decision to 2016 state tournament qualifier Rice Lake Tuesday, Aug. 29, in Rice Lake, before falling 3-1 to perennial BRC powerhouse Eau Claire Memorial at home Thursday, Aug. 31.
Junior co-captain Jared Syverson put River Falls on the board first against the Old Abes with a goal in the 10th minute assisted by senior midfielder Nolan Young.
Memorial's Jack Longville scored just before the end of the half to tie the score and Mitch Brenner put the Old Abes up 2-1 with a goal in the 52nd minute before Cooper Lyons added an insurance goal 20 minutes later. Owen Jolley assisted on all three Eau Claire Memorial goals to keep the Old Abes undefeated.
River Falls goalkeeper Jari Zoller finished with three saves as the Old Abes outshot the Wildcats, 12-4.
River Falls visited Chippewa Falls Tuesday, Sept. 5 and will play a nonconference game at New Richmond Monday, Sept. 11, before hosting Eau Claire North Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Field.
