Garrett Loomis fired a 78 to lead all golfers at the Marshfield Sectional as the Wildcats finished second to qualify for state for the first time since 2006. Superior won the 8-team sectional title with a score of 331 while River Falls earned the second qualifying spot with a score of 337.

Holden Ohlsen tied for seventh with a round of 82 while Blake Heiman added an 87 and Mike Xiong finished with a 90 to round out the Wildcat scoring.

The WIAA State Boys' Golf Tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday, June 4-5, at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

In WIAA regional softball action, Hayley Heschke hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to lift sixth-seeded River Falls to a 3-2 victory over No. 3 Hudson in a semifinal game Tuesday in Hudson.

Carlie Christensen's two-run homer in the second gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead before Heschke snapped a 2-2 tie with her homer in the seventh. Bailey Ullom went the distance on the mound to earn the victory.

The Wildcats will face second-seeded Eau Claire North in the regional final Thursday at 5 p.m. in Eau Claire.

The Wildcat baseball team also won its regional semifinal, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 2-1 Superior lead and post a 3-2 victory over the Spartans.

Alex Call tripled in Sam Barr with the tying run and scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Kusilek. James Witt pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win on the mound.

The Cats advanced to face top-seeded Stevens Point Thursday at 5 p.m. in Stevens Point.
