The UW-River Falls women's hockey team followed its Northern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title by defeating Adrian College, 4-2, in the NCHA O'Brien Cup championship game Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

The seventh-ranked Falcons, now 23-4-2 overall, won both the NCHA regular season and playoff titles for the third time and earned a spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament for the fifth time in team history. All the qualifying teams, and game pairings, will be announced Monday by the NCAA.

Kait Mason's goal 2 minutes, 39 seconds into the second period snapped a 2-2 tie and Brook Story added an insurance goal later in the period to lift the Falcons to the win. Allie Olson and Kate Flanagan scored less than four minutes apart midway through the first period to give UWRF a 2-1 lead.

Falcon goalie Melissa Deardorff, who entered the game with three straight shutouts in O'Brien Cup play, stopped 22 of 24 shots in the victory.
