LaPoint to play soccer at SCSU

Wildcat senior Bailey LaPoint has signed a letter of intent to attend St. Cloud State University and play soccer beginning in the fall of 2012.

St. Cloud State University soccer coach Becky Heiberger-McCabe has announced the signing of nine athletes to letters of intent to attend the university and play soccer for the Huskies beginning in the fall of 2012, including Bailey LaPoint of River Falls.

LaPoint is a two-time All-Big Rivers Conference player for the Wildcats who helped the 2011 squad earn the programs' first-ever berth in the WIAA State Tournament.

"Bailey's a very strong and tenacious front runner," Heiberger-McCabe said in a press release announcing LaPoint's signing. "Her physical presence and will to win will be a huge asset for us up top."

LaPoint was the Wildcats' second-leading scorer in 2011, finishing with 14 goals and 12 assists for 40 points. She also led the team in game-winning goals with three on her way to earning All-BRC First Team honors. She earned All-BRC Honorable Mention as a sophomore in 2010 and will be one of the team's captains this spring.

The Wildcats have won two straight BRC titles and finished the 2011 season with a record of 20-1-1. Their only loss was a 2-1 decision to Kimberly in double overtime in the state tournament quarterfinals.

In 2011, SCSU posted an 11-8-2 overall record and a 7-5-1 mark in the always rugged Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Huskies finished as the runner-up at the 2011 NSIC tournament that included wins over Mary and Upper Iowa.

The Huskies have advanced to the NSIC tournament for four consecutive years and they have also charted three consecutive 10-win (or better) seasons since 2009.
