The St. Croix Valley Fusion girls' hockey team recovered from its only two losses of the season at the Schwan Holiday Cup by posting back-to-back shutouts last week to improve to 12-2-1 on the season.

Freshman goaltender Kalli Armagost picked up her third and fourth career shutouts as the Fusion blanked Hudson, 3-0, Tuesday in a showdown between the top two teams in the Big Rivers Conference before defeating Rochester John Marshall (Minn.), 6-0 in a nonconference game Friday.

The Fusion will travel to Eau Claire to take on the Eau Claire/Altoona Stars Friday at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center. They return home to host Menomonie at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wildcat Centre.

Last Tuesday at Wildcat Centre against Hudson, Sig Dangeur gave the Fusion the only goal they would need when she tipped in a shot from the point by Hailey Rock at the 4:40 mark of the first period. Tanis Klingler also picked up an assist on the play.

Alice Cranston extended the Fusion lead to 2-0 with 2:30 remaining in the first period with an assist from Heather Shew.

The lead remained at 2-0 after two despite the Fusion holding a 32-9 advantage in shots on goal. Nikki Plunkett made the final 3-0 with a breakaway goal on her first shift of the third period.

St. Croix Valley finished with 42 shots on goal to Hudson's 10. Hudson and the Fusion both entered the game undefeated in BRC play.

Friday night against Rochester John Marshall, Cranston tallied a hat trick and an assist, Dangeur had a pair of goals and Georgie Shimek added a goal and two assists in a 6-0 Fusion win.

Klingler and Lily Cranston had two assists each in the victory while Rock, Tara Frey and Heidi Van Dell had one apiece.

The Fusion scored three goals in each of the first and third periods while outshooting the Rockets 38-12.

"Everyone got in the game, lots of smiles and lots of fun," head coach Matt Cranston said about the win.
