It wasn't the Wildcat girls' golf team's best performance of the season, but it was enough to keep its season alive.

The Cats posted a team score of 389 at last Wednesday's regional tournament in Eau Claire to finish third in the team standings and qualify for this week's sectional tournament in Eau Claire.

"We didn't play great; we didn't play awful," head coach Deb Meyer said. "The scores were mediocre, but good enough to get us through."

Hudson ran away with the regional title, finishing 17 strokes ahead of second place New Richmond with 371. The Cats finished three strokes ahead of Eau Claire Memorial for third place. All four teams advanced to the sectional round.

Sophomore Mari Pechacek led the Cats with a score of 95 with classmate Kacey Simone right behind with 96. Seniors Larissa Jackson and Shelby Kay each finished with 99 to give the Cats a team score of 389 while junior Kayla Swanson finished with 103.

"Four of the five girls shot in the 90s, which is good," Meyer said. "But the teams we are going up against at the sectional shot much better team scores at their regional, and they have proven in past tournaments to be tough."

Meyer said in order for the Cats to lower their scores, they will have to minimize mental mistakes.

"Last Wednesday we had lots of mental error, penalty strokes and missed putts," she said. "Mental mistakes have been killing us lately. The girls need to go into the sectional aggressive and confident."

Meyer said the fact the sectional will be played at Mill Run in Eau Claire, a course the Cats are very familiar with, should work in their favor.

"The course itself isn't tough, so the numbers could be low, however the weather doesn't look real promising."
