Fighting Fish to open playoffs in Ellsworth
The River Falls Fighting Fish won't have to travel far when the first round of the Wisconsin Baseball Association playoffs kick off on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The Fish will open postseason play against the Tilden Tigers in a noon contest at Bob Young Field in Ellsworth.
The Fish finished 12-4 in the St. Croix Valle Baseball League (SCVBL) and won the North Division title to earn the bracket's No. 2 seed while the third-seeded Tigers finished 12-6, and in second place in the North Division of the Chippewa River Baseball League (CRBL).
The winners of Saturday's game will face either the top-seeded Haugen Knights (15-1 in independent play) or the host Ellsworth Hubbers (9-7 in the SCVBL) Sunday at noon at Bob Young Field. The Knights and Hubbers will meet Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, the New Richmond Millers (9-7 SCVBL) will battle the Mississippi Valley Conference's La Crosse Athletics (9-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday and the independent Grantsburg Honkers (10-6) will play the Dairyland League's Merrill Rangers (8-2) Saturday at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Bob Young Field in Ellsworth.
The winners in each bracket will advance to the 8-team WBA State Championship Tournament Aug. 14-16 in Haugen.
