Viewpoint: Getting Wisconsin veterans the benefits they earned
As I talk with veterans and their families throughout western and central Wisconsin, I continue to hear about issues they are having cutting through the bureaucracy at the Department of Veterans Affairs to access the benefits they have earned. We are here to help.
One of the most important services that I provide to Wisconsinites is assisting them with cutting through red tape. We can help Wisconsin veterans with concerns involving health care and the medical centers, get a status update on an existing VA claim, in select circumstances request that a claim be expedited, obtain copies of personnel records and other documents, retrieve replacement medals for veterans and their families, and correct a discharge status.
I am proud of the work we have already done to assist thousands of Wisconsin veterans and their families. For example, veterans like John, from Viroqua, who was having an issue getting his claim processed and with our help cut through the red tape and got quick approval for his benefits. And veterans like the late Ed Ross, from Eleva. I was honored to be able to present the service medals he had earned during his service in World War II but never received.
