Council eliminates old ordinances
The City Council voted to repeal several older portions of the Municipal Code that are now redundant during its regular meeting Tuesday evening, March 14.
Those “obsolete” ordinances governed:
- Billiard Halls — According to the City Council packet, staff deemed this ordinance "obsolete" as there hasn’t been a Billiard Hall license issued since 2003.
- Christmas tree sales, for which there are an average of two licenses per year issued.
- Regulations related to placement of large satellite television dishes, adopted in 1986. Today satellite dishes are smaller dishes are smaller, and less popular.
The council also:
- Adjusted the Plan Commission Membership. The newly passed ordinance reduces the number of members from nine to seven, and removes the requirement for the city engineer to be a member of the commission.
- Changed the maximum height requirements for light and heavy industrial zoning districts to 50 feet.
- Established regulations for personal storage facilities (mini-warehouses). There are now two mini warehouse storage facilities in River falls. The ordinance allows mini warehouses as special use in certain zoning districts.
- Purchased a lot in the Powells Addition to the city for routing and underground placement of electric system equipment. The property is directly across the street from the new Power Plant substation now under constructed on Winter Street.
- Approved the city's 2017 rout and seal program to fill cracks in city pavement. The bid was awarded to American Pavement Solutions for $53,985.
