There are three contested local elections

In the city of River Falls and the River Falls School District, the following spring (April 5) election races will be competitive:

--District 4 council member: Jay Matchett, 1714 Macie St., and Todd A. Bjerstedt, 531 High Ridge Road.

District 4 incumbent Aaron Taylor, who appeared ready to run for mayor against Dan Toland, ended up not be a candidate for either position.

--District 2 council member: Chris Gagne, 75 E. Johnson St., and Josh Hudek, 1352 Orange St., are the candidates. This is for a special one-year term to fill out the rest of the late Peter Anderson’s two-year term.

For the school board’s three open positions, there are four candidates:

--Manny Kenney (incumbent), N7661 County Road O; Amy Halvorson, 1182 Foster St. (appointed last summer); Ramona Gunter, N8246 975th St., and John Lisowski, 1105 South Fork Drive.

Editor’s note: In the Jan. 7 print issue of the River Falls Journal, Jay Matchett’s name wasn’t listed as a candidate for District 4 City Council. The information on his candidacy came too late for the Journal’s deadline.
