City speeds up Paulson Road travel

Cars on Paulson Road will soon be speeding up between Whitetail Boulevard and Radio Road, thanks to a decision by the River Falls City Council in its regular meeting Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The council held a second reading for an amendment to the city's Official Traffic Control Map, which would change the speed limit in the previously mentioned area of Paulson Road to 35mph.

However council member Scott Morrissette motioned to increase the speed a bit more.

“I think 40 mph is probably more appropriate than 35,” Morrissette said.

Other council members in favor of the increase to 40 mph noted that there is not much pedestrian traffic in the affected area of Paulson Road.

Council members worried that a 40 mph speed limit might enourage those already driving 40mph in the 35 mph zone to drive even faster. Council member Christopher Gagne also pointed out there is a childcare center located within Whitetail Ridge corporate park.

After the discussion, a majority of council members votde to increase the speed to 40 mph.

New speed signs will be ordered and placed within the next several weeks.
