Shoplifter can run but she can’t hide

A 35-year-old woman, said to be homeless, ran from ShopKo Saturday afternoon, July 13, allegedly with stolen merchandise and drugs in the purse that she dropped while being pursued.

She was caught soon while heading in the direction of the Sears store.

The woman was arrested for shoplifting, possession of methamphetamine, and for warrants out of St. Croix, Pierce and Marathon counties.

Her purse allegedly held ShopKo underwear, sunglasses, flip flops, earrings, tank top and Duck glitter tape. The woman told officers she stole from ShopKo out of need and ran because she didn’t want to go to jail.

River Falls police say the woman’s purse also had many needles, hollowed pens, glass bubble pipe with the white powdery residue of meth, and other drug items. One needle was said to contain Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of heroin overdose.

The woman, who’d been arrested before for shoplifting at ShopKo, was taken to county jail in Hudson.

--Arrested a pair of local 17-year-old boys for battery, disorderly conduct and resisting police before 2 a.m. Monday, July 14, at 456 Hanson Drive.

One boy is the same one who phoned in a bomb threat to River Falls High School last February. His case was just settled in court and he got probation.

The boys were on the roof of the house where one of them lives. They were allegedly on drugs and had been fighting with the father of the one who lives there.

Both boys eventually came down from the roof but then had to be forcibly arrested during a struggle with officers and taken away – first to be checked out at a hospital before ending up in jail.

--Arrested a 15-year-old city of River Falls girl for drug paraphernalia possession around 1:30 Wednesday, July 9, in the 500 block of Fremont Street.

The girl’s mother had called police about her daughter smoking weed with other juveniles, including boys, inside a tent in the backyard.

The boys slipped out through a back gate before officers arrived.

Later, after a search, police found a purple pipe with pot residue wrapped in a plastic bag.

The girl was cuffed, brought to the police station for booking, and given a citation with an Aug. 27 Municipal Court date.

--Arrested four local teens, ages 14-16, for underage drinking that included marijuana possession before 2 a.m. Sunday, July 13, at North Main and Maple streets.

The four were walking downtown. An officer stopped them for being out way past the nightly curfew. They also allegedly smelled of alcohol but denied drinking.

They were given preliminary breath tests and arrested. A baggy of pot, allegedly belonging to one, was confiscated and that boy cited for underage drinking and having marijuana.

Another boy, 15, suddenly got sick from all his drinking and threw up. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He not only got a drinking citation but another one for public vomiting.
