Same game, different name
Nearly a year after new owners bought Bud's Lanes, the bowling alley has changed its name to St. Croix Lanes.
General Manager and owner Randy Bronstad, who moved to River Falls after he and partner Carter Smith bought Bud's, said the name St. Croix Lanes makes sense to them.
The business sits on St. Croix Street, in St. Croix County, in the St. Croix River Valley.
Besides, he smiles, it sounds kind of "fancy."
Bronstad said business is going better than expected and that the bowling center's operations won't change beyond those made last year.
St. Croix Lanes opens every day whereas Bud's usually closed some days during the summer. It begins serving customers lunch at 11 a.m. instead of opening later in the afternoon.
He said people might be surprised by the expanded menu St. Croix Lanes offers. It features pizza, soup, wraps, burgers, specialty sandwiches, salads and about a dozen different appetizer items including wings.
St. Croix Lanes offers a Pick Up the Grade program, in which all kids get free bowling by bringing in their report cards. The better the grades on the card, the better the bowling perks.
Bronstad said the alley runs a special during August where league players can bowl for free.
He and wife Tanya work at St. Croix Lanes every day, and they're looking forward to meeting people as business picks up even more with league play in August.
