Fire destroys Spring Valley-area wood shop
Fire destroyed a wood shop Tuesday in rural Spring Valley.
Spring Valley Fire Chief Mike Fitzjarrell said firefighters were called at about 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 to N8273 County Road I in the town of Gilman, where a resident reported the blaze.
Pierce County land records state the property is owned by Thomas and Naomi McLeod.
Fitzjarrell said firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, which he described as a two-story, 20-by-30-foot structure.
No one was injured in the fire, the cause and origin of which remained under investigation, according to the chief.
Fitzjarrell said firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby garage.
The building remained standing, the chief said, in spite of heavy interior damage and damage to its roof.
Crews from Elmwood Fire Department and United Fire and Rescue assisted Spring Valley firefighters. Fitzjarrell said crews were on the scene for about three hours.
