One injured in semi-car accident east of Ellsworth

A semi-car accident early Friday morning left one injured and sizable damage along US Highway 10, west of Ellsworth. 

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported around 1 a.m., they got a call of a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 10. Sheriff's deputy Andy Thoms reports initial investigation indicates a 1990 Chevrolet Prism driven by David A. Kelch, 53, Arkansaw was eastbound on Hwy. 10 when he crossed the centerline and struck a semi-tractor being operated by Alan V. Smith, 63, Maiden Rock, who was westbound. 

Thoms reports the semi-tractor overturned and lost most of its cargo which was recycled paper products. Kelch was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing with undetermined injuries. Smith was uninjured. 

The Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Ellsworth Fire Department, Ellsworth Ambulance Service, Wisconsin State Patrol, Pierce County Highway Department and the Ellsworth Police Department.

The Highway Department was called out to assist with traffic control and partial roadway closure while the accident was being cleared.

Thoms added the Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol are still investigating the accident.
