UPDATE --One woman is dead after a train vs. pick-up truck crash east of Baldwin just before noon on Wednesday.*

Gloria H. Marske, 69, of Cumberland, was pronounced dead at Baldwin Area Medical Center after a pick-up truck she was riding in was struck by a train. Gloria's husband, Roy L. Marske, 69, of Cumberland, was driving the truck.

According to a St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office press release, the truck was leaving 2231 Highway 12 headed north toward the highway when it crossed the railroad tracks. According to property tax records, Grand Garage of Stillwater, LLC is listed at that address.

The press release said Roy was crossing the tracks when he saw a westbound train approaching. He was trying to back up off the tracks when the train struck the vehicle in the passenger side.

Gloria had to be extricated from the truck. Both Roy and Gloria were taken to Baldwin Area Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Roy was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

No members of the train's crew were injured. The train was carrying mixed cargo containers.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, Baldwin Police, Baldwin Area EMS and United Fire responded to the accident.

The incident remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office. This is the third traffic fatality in St. Croix County in 2014.

Scanner audio of the incident is available at

About seven miles to the west, Benjamin C. Morgan, 53, of Hudson, was killed on Monday when a train struck his Mack Truck just east of Roberts near the Town of Hammond/Town of Warren line.

This story will be updated as new information becomes available.

* Due to a St. Croix County press release typo, a previous version of this post indicated that both the driver and passenger were killed.
