Woman taken to hospital after Saturday morning crash

A woman was injured in a three-vehicle accident on Hwy. 65 in the town of River Falls late Saturday morning.

At approximately 11:17 a.m., Pierce County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Hwy. 65 and 770th Avenue for an accident with injury and road blockage.

When they arrived, deputies determined there were three vehicles involved in the crash -- all with moderate to severe damage. Two vehicles were disabled in the middle of the lanes of travel. The third vehicle was disabled in the northeast ditch of the intersection.

Investigation indicated that a 1997 Chevy Cavalier -- driven by Gary Crowe, 58, of River Falls -- was southbound waiting for northbound traffic to clear before taking a left turn to head east on 770th Avenue.

While waiting, the Cavalier was rear-ended by another southbound vehicle. That vehicle, a 2001 VW Jetta, was driven by Logan Schlosser, 21, of Durand.

After the Cavalier was rear-ended, it was pushed into the northbound lane of Hwy. 65, and a northbound vehicle struck it head on. The northbound vehicle, a 2000 Chevy Silverado, was driven by Richard Collins, 34, of Red Wing, Minn.

The Silverado had a female passenger, age 37, who was transported to Regions Hospital with undetermined injuries.

All vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Initial investigations showed the crash was caused by due to inattentive driving; however the crash remains under investigation.

Assisting on scene were the River Falls Fire Department, River Falls Ambulance, River Falls Police Department, Pierce County Highway Department and Jerry's Towing.
