RF Police: Robber's gun found

The semi-automatic pistol that police think was used in the Nov. 2 night robbery at Dick's Hometown Liquor has been recovered. Investigator John Wilson said the gun was found hidden in the weeds outside the house of Blake Halverson, N7923 870th St. Halverson has been charged with a felony armed robbery by the Pierce County district attorney.

Wilson said he's checking to find out who the owner of the gun is. Halverson, 17, is too young to own a gun. Eighteen is the legal age for gun ownership.

Wilson said that, depending on circumstances, the gun's owner could also face criminal charges relating to the robbery.

Here are other updates in the robbery case:

  • Halverson has been suspended from the high school. He bailed out of jail on a 2,000 cash bond and was back in the classroom Tuesday. Police report school authorities said his presence at school was too much of a distraction.
  • Halverson will have a preliminary hearing in Pierce County Circuit Court at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19.
  • Three other high school students, two boys and a girl, all juniors may also face charges in the liquor store robbery. They have been questioned by police and were allegedly in the car waiting for Halverson after his alleged robbery. The police report about the involvement of these three has gone to the district attorney to review.
  • The stolen cash from Dick's has not been found. Wilson said the money was probably already spent.
