River Falls blooms No. 1!

The two-year-plus local effort to prepare and compete in the America In Bloom national beautification contest has paid off. River Falls earned the top spot in its population category during a ceremony last week in Hershey, Penn. On hand to receive the award was River Falls In Bloom Chairwoman Susan Reese, committee member Carrie Fisher and city representative Buddy Lucero.

"I am proud to have played a role in bringing this honor and national recognition to our deserving city. I'm so proud of River Falls," Reese said Monday. "This is a great honor to win the national award. I hope the city will capitalize on it."

Of all the various judging categories, America in Bloom judges gave highest praise to River Falls for "environmental awareness."

Reese also called attention to the recent commemorative book, "River Falls in Bloom," that was compiled and submitted for the contest.

"Please obtain a copy of this beautiful and informative book," she said.

"River Falls in Bloom" can be bought at Freeman Drug, Global M.A.D.E, First National Bank, River Falls State Bank and WESTconsin Credit Union.
