Emergency school test call is next Wednesday morning

If you're a parent of a River Falls School District student, you should get a test call to your home or cell phone at 9 a.m. next Wednesday, Sept. 16. It's part of the new AlertNow emergency message system put in place by the district.

Superintendent Tom Westerhaus will deliver the test message.

The new system will be used in the coming year to deliver brief, accurate information to parents about a crisis or emergency - from a snow day closing to a school lockdown.

Parental home and cell phone numbers plus e-mail addresses have been sent to AlertNow's data base.

AlertNow is a parent-notification system run by a Raleigh, N.C., based company that mostly serves schools throughout the nation.

River Falls parents can update their phone and e-mail contacts at any time by calling the school district's Central Office at 425-1800.

This emergency communications system is meant to set up the best contacts for reaching parents, so feedback to the district is welcomed.

In the Sept. 10 print edition of the Journal, the AlertNow story says the test call will be at 9 a.m. next Wednesday, Sept. 9, which is wrong. The test call, again, is Wednesday, Sept. 16.
