UPDATED: Jeep crashes onto train tracks

Steven Glaus, 47, Pepin, died Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 2) when the Jeep he was driving near Maiden Rock plunged off Hwy. 35 around 1 p.m. and landed on the railroad tracks below, bringing train traffic to a standstill.

Glaus was northbound when his vehicle veered off the left side, entered the ditch, traveled down an embankment and onto the railroad tracks where it came to rest, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

EMS personnel attempted to revive him but were not successful. The county medical examiner pronounced Glaus dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Department said the Jeep did not collide with any other vehicle or train and that the accident remains under investigation.

Glaus apparently became ill and lost control after coming over a slight rise near 385th Street. The Jeep plunged about 150 yards down.
