Investigator suspects arson caused fire at state park

Fire destroyed this DNR-owned building at the Kinnickinnic State Park last week.

The River Falls and Prescott Fire Departments responded to a structure fire in the Kinnickinnic State Park, W12617 770th Avenue, Clifton, about 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday. The DNR owns the unattached garage that sits on the state park property and burned last week.

Pierce County Sheriff's Department Investigator Doug Ducklow says joint efforts of the two fire departments stifled the fire and kept it from spreading. He confirmed early this week that the suspected cause of the fire is arson.

He continues to investigate the fire in cooperation with the DNR. Ducklow asks anyone with information about the fire or something they heard or saw that could relate to it - to call him at the Pierce County Sheriff's Department: 715-273-6807.
