Tuesday night results: Wildcat girls fare better than boys

The River Falls girls' basketball team and the St. Croix Valley Fusion girls' hockey team both advanced in their respective playoff brackets while the Wildcat boys' hockey team saw its season come to an end with a 3-2 loss to Hudson in a sectional semifinal.

The third-seeded Wildcat girls' basketball team defeated No. 6 Superior, 40-29, in a regional semifinal and the Fusion blanked Webster, 9-0, in a girls' hockey sectional semifinal.

The basketball team will now face second-seeded Chippewa Falls Saturday at 7 p.m. in Chippewa Falls. The Cardinals defeated Eau Claire Memorial, 43-40, Tuesday night.

The top-seeded Fusion will take on No. 2 Hayward/Spooner in the sectional final Friday at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Sports Center. Hayward/Spooner defeated Hudson, 2-1, Tuesday night.

Friday night's winner will qualify for the WIAA State Girls' Hockey Championship Tournament March 6-7 in Madison.

In boys' hockey, No. 2 seed Hudson will take on top-seed Superior in the sectional final Saturday at 2 p.m. at the New Richmond Sports Center.

In college basketball Tuesday night, the UW-River Falls men fell to UW-Whitewater, 86-81, and the Falcon women lost to UW-Eau Claire, 62-47, in first round WIAC Tournament action.
