Wildcat boys blow out Durand; skaters to host Amery
The Wildcat boys' basketball team defeated Durand, 77-37, Tuesday night while the Wildcat hockey team found out it will host Amery in Thursday night's WIAA regional final. Amery defeated Barron/Chetek, 7-0, in a regional semifinal Tuesday night in Amery.
In River Falls, Sean Gilbert and Sam Abair had 16 points each and Lance Westberg added 11 as River Falls routed Durand, 77-37, in nonconference basketball action. The Cats jumped out to a 23-12 first quarter lead and widened the gap to 53-23 at halftime before cruising to the win.
River Falls improved to 13-4 while Durand dropped to 4-13. The Cats return to Big Rivers Conference action Thursday at Rice Lake.
Thursday's regional final hockey game between the No. 3 seed Wildcats and No. 6 Amery will begin at 7 p.m. at Wildcat Centre. Seventh-seeded Somerset, 3-1 winners over No. 10 Spooner/Shell Lake Tuesday, will play second-seeded Hudson Thursday night in Hudson. The winners will face off in a sectional semifinal Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the home of the highest seed.
The other side of the bracket features top-seed Superior hosting No. 8 Webster and No. 4 Menomonie hosting No. 5 New Richmond Thursday night.
