Wildcats win football opener
Levi Johnson ran for two touchdowns and Tyler Hunter and Marty Herum each passed for one score and ran for another to lead River Falls to a 48-34 win over New Richmond in the season opener for both teams at Ramer Field Friday night.
Johnson scored on runs of 62 and 21 yards and finished with 174 yards rushing in 12 carries. Hunter hit Eric Gilbertson for a 25-yard touchdown for the first score of the game, then ran for a 41-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give River Falls a 20-7 lead.
Herum hit Gilbert in the corner of the end zone just before the half to make the score 26-14.
The Wildcats broke the game open with three straight touchdowns in the third quarter. Ryan Young ran up the middle for a 22 yard touchdown and Herum hit Gilbertson for the two-point conversion to give the Cats a 31-14 lead. After Johnson's second touchdown of the game, Herum ran in from 8-yards out to widen the gap to 48-14 at the end of three.
