Competitors wanted for Flower Show

Have some fun at the River Falls Public Library Flower Show and take advantage of the beautiful bounty of summer flowers available in gardens and area roadsides.

With classes for both adults and youth (age 14 and under) and several categories to choose from, everyone can get involved.

The "Best in the West" flower show is timed to coincide with River Falls Days, and one category reflects its Western theme, "Yippie-Kai-Yay on the Kinni."

The categories are:

  • Rope Tricks: Connect to this year's River Falls Days theme. Use your imagination and tie this one right up. Open to both adults and children.
  • Reflections: Choose a painting from the ArtFull Gardens floral art show in the library's upstairs and create an arrangement to compliment it. Arrangements can be done either off site or at the library just prior to judging. Stop in or call to reserve your painting. Adults only.
  • Traditional: Time-honored arrangements of the classic variety. Open to both adults and children.
  • Miniature: Tiny containers and flowers in arrangements; overall height and width not to exceed 6". Open to adults and children.

The competition will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, and continue until judging is finished that evening. Entries must be at the library by 6 p.m. that day. A panel of three experienced, non-local judges will make all award decisions.

The flower arrangements will be on display Thursday, July 10, through noon on Saturday, July 12.

There will be cash prizes to first place winners in all categories, plus books and ribbons for all winners.

This is the fourth year for the competition, which is underwritten by the First National Bank--River Falls & Prescott. Entry forms may be picked up at the bank or the library, or call to have one mailed to you. They can also be downloaded from the River Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Web site at
