Assembly passes anti-Healthy Wisconsin amendment

The Wisconsin Assembly has ended its regular business for the year.

On their way out the door, Majority Republicans threw a jab against government health care.

They cooked up a constitutional amendment barring the state from making anyone join a tax-funded health plan. And they passed it 52-45.

Democrats called the measure irresponsible, and said it would never become law.

It was clearly as a statement against the Healthy Wisconsin universal plan Senate Democrats have tried for almost a year to pass.

They failed to put it in the new state budget, but they held a hearing on it this week.

The Senate holds one final session today (Thursday). But even if they rammed the health plan through, the Assembly won't be around to ratify it which means the whole issue will have to wait until next year.
