Dr. James E. Finstad, 70

Dr. James E. Finstad, of Burnsville, Minn., age 70, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away Feb. 7, 2007.

He will always be remembered as a loving husband of 44 years to Angela. He will be deeply missed by: son, Nelson (Shelly) Finstad; daughter, Heidi (Bret) Beckman; son, Peer (Kim) Finstad; four adoring grandchildren: Brittany and Justin Beckman, Elsa and Anja Finstad; sister, Marian (Cecil) Bjork; and brother, Bob (Pauline) Finstad. Preceded in death by his mother and father: Jennie and Milton Finstad; and nephew, Michael Bjork.

Jim graduated in 1954 from River Falls High School, WI. He spent three years at UW-River Falls, graduating from UW-Madison in 1958. Jim graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1962. After graduation, Dr. Finstad completed his internship at Minneapolis General before fulfilling his residency requirement at the University of Minnesota from 1964-67.

From 1967-69 he served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, based at Offutt in Omaha. In 1969, Dr. Finstad joined Minneapolis-based Consulting Radiologists Limited, where he enjoyed a 39-year career as a respected and honored radiologist, retiring Jan. 1, 2006. Throughout life he enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandkids, reading, history, travel, an insatiable appetite for learning, and his years at CRL, including the many enduring friendships he made.

Memorial service will be at Grace United Methodist in Burnsville on Monday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. followed by a luncheon. Flowers can be sent to Grace United Methodist Church, 15309 Maple Island Road, Burnsville, MN 55306. Memorials preferred to Union Gospel Mission.
