Independence means more options for insurance agency

Reis Insurance Agency started the transition June 1 from company-affiliated to independent agency.

Self-taught insurance professional and River Falls native Dave Reis bought the Main Street office space and hung his insurance shingle 25 years ago.

Back then, he had a few years of experience but no accounts. Now he has 31 years of experience and enough customers to keep busy four full-time staff members.

"The number-one reason we decided to become independent is so we can offer customers the best possible package at the best prices," said Reis.

Reis works at the agency with his son, Jake Reis, who graduated from UW-Stout with a Business Administration degree five years ago.

Pat Blevins has managed the office for the past 14 years and has a 22-year background in insurance. Marti Samb joined the Reis team two years ago as a customer service representative.

Before June, the Reis Agency offered coverage through only one company. They were tied to the packages and structures that company offered. Going independent means that Reis can go through many companies to fit customers' exact needs.

The change enables Reis to offer expanded service. Using more companies to create a policy means Reis can offer more options than ever.

Reis said, "There's absolutely nothing we can't do for our customers now and we've had overwhelmingly positive support from them about our decision to become independent."

Reis offers free quotes and all kinds of insurance from home and health to boats and bonds and more. The agency stays involved throughout a claim process, seeing it through to the end.

"The biggest challenge is keeping up with customers' needs. The biggest joy is helping people and taking care of their needs," said Reis.

Each Reis Agency staff member undergoes training each year to help them stay on top of industry changes. The companies Reis works with also pass along information.

Reis says the agency will go through about six to eight months of intensely busy times until the transition is finished, but Reis is committed to serving the community's needs.

He's been serving people's insurance needs since River Falls' population was about 5,000 people and is excited about this change.
