Two juveniles caught in city-wide thefts throughout Prescott

Prescott Police have apprehended two juveniles responsible for a series of thefts from motor vehicles and criminal damage to property incidents throughout the city since April 29, Chief of Police Mike R. Bondarenko announced.

The juveniles, who are 14 and 17 years of age and live in the city, took property out of parked unlocked motor vehicles at nine locations throughout the city between April 29 and May 12. Police have recovered approximately $3,500 worth of stolen property, including a laptop computer, cellular telephones and other electronic devices. The youth also took small amounts of cash and tobacco products.

The juveniles were also responsible for vandalism to property along the riverfront in downtown Prescott in mid-May, including spray-painting graffiti on boats in a marina.

"We received a tip about one of the juveniles being involved in the thefts and followed up on that information," Bondarenko said. "We received excellent cooperation from the parents of both juveniles and were able to recover most of the property that had been stolen."

The youths will be referred to Pierce County authorities for prosecution.
