Ellsworth man critical after cycle-deer crash

A 50-year-old Ellsworth man was flown to Regions Hospital late Wednesday evening after the motorcycle he was riding struck and killed a deer in the town of Oak Grove.

Michael Nelson was riding his motorcycle southbound on Hwy. 35 about a quarter mile south of 1200th Street at 9:19 p.m. when the deer leaped out and was struck.

Nelson was treated at the scene by EMS personnel from Prescott with help from an Ellsworth Area Ambulance paramedic. He was later evacuated by medical helicopter, which picked Nelson up from a field near the Prescott High School, according to Pierce County Sergeant Mike Waltz.

Prescott fire and police assisted in securing the landing zone.

A Regions spokesperson said Thursday morning Nelson is in critical condition. Nelson is the brother of Roger Nelson of Nelson Plumbing and Sewer Systems.
