(Update) Woman air-lifted from crash scene near Ellsworth
Vickie Ovsak, 53, of Beldenville was transported by air ambulance from the scene of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Hwy. 63, just east of the Ellsworth village limits about 6:15 p.m., Friday.
Pierce County authorities were advised of the accident about 5:40 p.m., prompting a response from Ellsworth Area Ambulance, Ellsworth Fire Department and sheriff's deputies.
A preliminary investigation of the crash indicates a vehicle traveling east on Hwy. 63 driven by Renee Bennett, 42, of St. Paul, was making a left-turn into a private driveway. This vehicle turned into the path of the vehicle driven by Ms. Ovsak and the two collided. Ms. Ovsak was trapped in her vehicle and was extricated by Ellsworth Area Ambulance and Ellsworth Fire Department personnel.
Ms. Bennett was taken to River Falls Area Hospital for treatment of her injuries while Ms. Ovsak was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. She was said to have suffered a severe leg injury but was conversing with care-givers en route to the hospital.
The crash is still under investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
