Restaurant owners wanted 'something different' for new sign

Frank Balazi and Chelsea Leighton, new owners of Kinni Cafe Family Restaurant, stand near the newly-painted sign on the front of their restaurant. They hired local artist David Markson to paint the front of their building, instead of putting up a more traditional sign.

The new owners of the Kinni Cafe, 702 N. Main St., have spent about a year renovating the resturant. For the finishing touch, the sign, new owners Chelsea Leighton and Frank Balazi wanted something eye-catching.

"I wanted to do something different," Leighton said. "Everyone else in town, you know, they just have the plain old sign."

Leighton decided to have a sign painted onto the restaurant building, like a mural. To "keep it local," she hired local painter David Markson.

"It's kind of the finishing touch on the building," Leighton said. "It's just going to be different than anything else."
